About Irsee and Travel Information

!!! Attention: Changed Departure times from Airport to Central Station!!!

General Information

EuroPLoP will be held at Kloster Irsee, a former Benedictine monastery, in the heart of Bavaria, Germany. Its history can be traced back to the 12th century, and the buildings we see today were erected in the beginning of the 18th century.

The address of the conference site is:

Kloster Irsee
Schwaebisches Tagungs- und Bildungszentrum
Klosterring 4
87660 Irsee
Tel: +49 8341 / 906-00
Fax: +49 8341 / 742-78

Sports

The monastery offers a sauna and a bowling alley. Both are free of charge. There are lots of jogging, hiking and mountain biking trails around the monastery. There is also a small lake nearby (10 min by foot). Bring your sports suits and equipment with you, if you like. You will have enough time for sports activities during the conference.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available on site. There are single and double rooms, all with shower, bath, phone, and mini-bar. Note that phone and mini-bar are not included in the conference fee. Some of you will be assigned to double rooms (like at PLoP), but changes are certainly possible. All rooms are non-smoking.

Travel Information

The easiest way to come to Bad Irrsee is via Munich by train. Because the complete conference is in a single building you won't need a car down there. Therefore we only describe how to come there with public transportation from Munich Airport and from Munich Central Station. (Of course, all information is supplied without liability. Check with your travel agent)

From Munich Airport

Duration: 2 hours
Price: DM 51,-- / DM 34,-- (1. class/2. class) one-way plus taxi (approx. DM 20,-- per ride)
Departure at Munich Airport: every 20 minutes starting six minutes past the hour (12:06, 12:26, 12:46, 13:06, ...)

On arrival at Munich, go to the Central Area (marked with "Z"), buy a ticket if you haven't one already, and enter the S-Bahn to Munich. There is no other train waiting, so you can't do anything wrong. You will arrive at Munich Central Station (marked "Hauptbahnhof") 39 minutes and an uncountable number of stops later. Leave the S-Bahn and follow the signs directing you to the trains (marked "Zu den Zügen"). Now you can proceed as described below. You have to count an additional 10-15 minutes to change at the central station.

From Munich Central Station

Duration: 1 hour
Price: DM 33,--/22,-- (1. class/2. class) one-way plus taxi (approx. DM 20,-- per ride)
Departure according to the timetable below

Depending on the train you're taking, go either to the main platform or to the tracks 27-36 at the right side of the station (marked "Gl. 27-36"). The large panel at the main platform will tell you at which track the train waits. Leave the train at "Kaufbeuren" and take one of the taxis just outside the station. If there is no taxi waiting, a new one will come soon. Tell the driver to go to "Kloster Irrsee". The taxi ride lasts about 10-15 minutes and costs approximately DM 20,--. If you group together you can share the fee.
